Health and Technical Education Development Centre (HTEDC) and Satyawoti Village Development Committe jointly organized five days AI summit in Satyawoti. In this summit more than hundred women, Dalit and Janajati were participated at that summit. Summit determined five year empower plan on women, Dalit and Janajati. This summit also prepared five year VDC breakthrough plan. This whole summit was faciliteted by Ram Bahadur Raut National Chairperson of NAINN.

Nepal is very beautiful country. Between the high Himalayan range there is a very beautiful place named Mustang (Jomsom). It looks like a heaven. Jomsom is a headquarter of mustang district. One day AI orientation for government officer had been held. Chief district officer, Deputy Superintendent of police and other head of the different office and total forty participants were participated that orientation program. PARTICIPATION IN APPRCIATIVE INQUIRY CERTIFICATE POGRAM IN THE USA

Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Cleveland, Ohio, USA, as its regular schedule, organized Appreciative Inquiry Certificate program of this year from 19 March, 2007. The first part of the program (training) is over. Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) has taken part in the program. The following executives of NAINN have taken part in the program:

a. Mr. Ram Bahadur Raut – National Chairperson
b. Mr. Parashu Ram Timalsina – General Secretary

The program (training) was facilitated by Prof. Dr. David Cooperrider, the founding father of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and the Patron of NAINN, and Ronald Fry, associate professor of organizational behavior at case Western Reserve University. The first part of the program has been turned into a fruitful event for NAINN. The participants from different countries were almost amazed to know the movement and development of AI and NAINN’s contribution to make this happen. The participants from NAINN have been able to make NAINN and its activities popular to the people of different countries.

The second part of the program can be done individually. But the participants from NAINN will do the field work under the name of NAINN. At the end of the first part of the program, both the participants have announced the two innovative programs to be initiated before the third part of the program. The two new initiations will be as follows:

a. Breakthrough change in the VDCs through Appreciative Inquiry- will be led by Ram Bahadur Raut, National Chairperson of NAINN
b. Family for Peace and Social Development through Appreciative Inquiry (A project for Appreciative Inquiry Model Village) – will be led by Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN.

Besides these, the participants from NAINN organized meetings with the patron of NAINN. The meeting was mainly focused on the following topics:
• Formation of NAINN Friends’ Club
• Formation of AI Global Network
• AI Summit in Nepal
• Support of CWRU for the participation of NAINN members in AI certificate program regularly.
The patron is very much positive on the subjects and has given words to make these happen.
The participants are to be present in August, 2007 with the progress report of the projects in CWRU.

NAINN would like to thank Prof. David Cooperrider, Ronald Fry, Linda Fairburn, Sue Hammond, Najma, Allison, Mac Odell, Marcia Odell, Dawn Dole, Jennifer Carr, James Van Doran and many other people who have helped a lot to make this happen.

Report of Mumbai Visit

I have left Nepal for the journey to Mumbai on 19 November and returned in Nepal on 6th November, in this period I met the leaders of Prawashi Nepali Sangh in Mumbai. I couldn't meet them in one place due to the their job and residence differences. One day I went to the central member of Sang Mr. Damber Rawal in Nala Sopara in his residence and talked about the concept and history of the Appreciative Inquary. He was interested about this new concept so told him to organize a seminar for 3 to 5 days. He kept his economical and time management for the different friends though he has committed to orgnize the seminar. He told that i will discuss to all the leaders of the sangh and will inform about the program. Similary I met Mr. Balkrishna Dhakal Chairperson of Nepali prawashi Sangh of Maharastra - gujrat state in Vasinda , Loknath Pande secretory of the same sangh in Matunga and Deepak Bhattrai in Juhu and others friends in differences. All of them are interested to attend the seminar about AI Philosophy. If they will invite on any program we have to attend it to extend our concept in India. According to my experience we can develop our network in India through different organizations of Nepalese in India. We have to publish some bulletins for the publicity of AI.

A three days training of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) for the teachers of Private Boarding School was held in Chormara (Nawalparasi) on 2nd, 3rd and 4th of Kartik. The programme was organized by Mr. Bhim Lal Adhikari, Principal of Nawalpur Secondary English Boarding School. About 40 teachers of different schools were participated in the programme. The training was facilitated by Parasu Ram Timilsina (General Secretary of NAINN) and Suman Gopal Acharya (Principal of Little Angles Higher Sec. Brd. School, Parasi). The participants responded that they have learnt the new art of living with positive thought through the training.

Workshop on Appreciative Inquiry in respect to quality education

Paschimanchal Foundation organized a two days workshop on Appreciative Inquiry on September 24-25 in Pokhara. Around 50 teachers from primary to college level have participated the workshop. Apart from this, some teachers from other schools, where AI is being practiced, were also presence there as invitee participants. Dr. Ganapati Ojha, Founder Chairperson of Capital College and Research Center, Kathmandu and Mr, Radha Krishna Lamichhane, Coordinator of Paschimanchal Higher Secondory School facilitated the workshop in a very participatory way. NAINN Member as well as the Chairperson of Kaski Imagine Initiative, Mr. Ram Prasad Gyawali also participated that workshop and contributed his ideas and experiences in relation to the application of AI in education. .

Nepal Redcross Society, Kaski District Chapter organized a one-day seminar, on September 13, 2006 in Pokhara, participated by 40 Head Master of various schools. Besides the regular sessions about Red Cross, an orientation was given about Appreciative Inquiry. NAINN Member Mr. Ram Prasad Gyawali has delivered the session about the importance and use of AI in education sector. Third National Summit

It is our great pleasure to inform you that the third national summit of imagine initiatives of Nepal is successfully concluded on 10 September,2006 in Pokhara. The three day summit made a clear way about how NAINN, Regional Networks and Imagine Initiatives have to move forward in the changed context of Nepal. The participants discussed on the roles of AI people and organizations. The entire nation is eagerly waiting for 'NEW NEPAL' (NAINN's Ultimate Goal, set in the first summit, 2004). The election of Constituent Assembly and new constitution are at the gate. We AI people and organizations have to play a vital role now so that the election and constituent will be able to address the desire, wishes and need of people. We can go to the people in the grassroots, every corner of the country and every individual. We can make the people clear how they can make their nation and future bright being positive. NAINN and Imagine Initiatives can facilitate to make the best constituent. This is what discussed in the summit.

The second important thing we discussed in the summit is that we all will continue gearing up the 'positive mind setting' and 'positive societal transformation' movements this year as well but faster. We will reach everywhere and spread the petals of AI. We are hopeful, it will certainly help to grow the plants of AI flower.

There was discussion on various papers. The participants were from 27 districts. The three day summit could be unforgettable. Local, folk songs and dances, AI songs, poems added extra beauty to the summit. Linda Fairburn was present for three days.

The participants were spellbound time and again hearing the positive impact of AI and positive behavior when the participants shared their success stories. Linda Fairburn also shared her experience. We are very much grateful to her for representating the international AI community.

The summit ended with the 'Pokhara Declaration'.

IT IS DECLARED THAT THE FOURTH SUMMIT OF THE IMAGINE INITIATIVES OF NEPAL WILL BE HELD IN LUMBINI, THE BIRTHPLACE OF LORD BUDDHA.

Two day AI training held in Tribhuwan University Kirtipur. This training was organized by Imagine youth Initiative Nepal. In this training there were 35 participants participated in the training among them there were 5 female. This training focused on Management. All participants are belonging to management faculty they all are Master's degree student of this faculty. Three day AI training held in Devinagar Palpa. This training was organized by social Rise center Devinagar Palpa. In this training there were 22 participants participated in the training among them there were 5 female. This training focused on Ai principle and philosophy. All participants are board member and staff of this organization. Ram Bahadur Raut National Chairperson of NAINN was facilitated the training.

Human Rights and Leadership training through AI

Five day Human Rights and Leadership training through AI held in Tansen palpa. This training was organized by youth for peace and Development Palpa. In this training there were 28 participants participated in the training among them there were 7 female. This training focused on Ai principle, philosophy human right and leadership. Ram Bahadur Raut National Chairperson of NAINN and Arun Khadka general secretary of Youth Action Nepal was facilitated the training.

Visit on Military camp of Maoist.

National chairperson Mr. Ram Bahadur Raut was visited the Maoist camp on Muntum Palpa. In this place Maoist established base camp of military force. Here one thousand army are in this camp. At that time national chairperson discussed about peace building in Nepal and their role and responsibility in this field here.

Imagine Devichaur Formed

Human Rights Education Radio Listeners’ Club (HRERLIC, Nepal) organized a two day training on “Appreciative Inquiry and Conflict Transformation” at Devichaur, Lalitpur on 9-10 June, 2006. The training was organized focusing the people who are mainly living in the rural areas. There were 45 participants representing local organization. Most of the participants were female, 30. Most of the participants were just literate and they were clarified the importance of ‘Appreciation’. They were also clarified about how the conflict in the family, society and organization can be transformed positively. Philosophy of AI and the importance of family plan were also discussed. The participants were so happy getting a new way to understand the life. On the last day of the training, the participants volunteered to form Imagine Devichaur. They have become ready to bring a wave of positive change in their village. Mr. Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) facilitated the training. Mr. Ramesh Timalsina, National Executive Member of HRERLIC, Nepal, co-facilitated it.

Imagine Devichaur has been formed on the chairpersonship of Mr. Khadananda Dulal whereas Mr. Deepak Timalsina is the Secretary and Ms. Goma Bajagain is the treasurer. There are 9 members in the team. Mr Ramesh Timalsina is helping to disseminate the news of Devichaur.

Social Audit training through Appreciative Inquiry

Five day Social audit training through Appreciative Inquiry was held in Tansen. The training was organized by NGO Federation Nepal, district chapter, Palpa in June, 2006. Appreciative Inquiry Theory, philosophy and approach were discussed in the training. During the training, it was discussed on the importance of family plan. The subject, social Audit, is included in AI approach.

Imagine Youth Nepal (IYN) organized one day Appreciative Inquiry Orientation Program at Tribhubhan University (TU) on May 30,2006. The program was organized for the member of IYN. IYN has been recently established to mobilize the youths to make New Nepal. It has planned to spread its web all over Nepal so that the energy, creativity and imagination of the Youths of Nepal can be utilized for the Nation. IYN will go had in hand with Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN). Appreciative Inquiry is the guiding & organizational principle of IYN.

The main objective of the orientation program was to introduce AI among its members. The program was focused to provide basic knowledge of AI. Appreciative Inquiry Training

Anandaban Hospital, one of the pioneer hospitals working especially for the Leprosy patients, organized a three day Appreciative Inquiry Training to its staff from 16-18 February,2006. The training was organized in its own training hall at Tikabhairab, Lalitpur. The participants were cleared about the introduction of AI, its philosophy, 4-D cycle and positive mind setting. All the participants actively participated in the training. Mr. Buddhi Tamang, National Advisor of NAINN and Mr. Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN facilitated the training. There were 16 participants including two females.

AN APPEAL

History, no matter where it is, is the wealth of people of the whole world. A smallest unit of something can be a big insight in the future. It’s our duty to preserve and protect the identity of human civilization. In this context, Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) wants all to recall the destruction took place in Tansen, Palpa on 31 January 2006. The tragedy was not expected. The world runs in complexity and in chaos. So it happened and now we all are bound to accept the damage. The attack form the Maoist destroyed a century long living history of Nepal. Asia’s biggest gate is lying on the ground with its seared body. Many historical and archeological things were engulfed with fire. The old building, which was supporting the government offices with pride, is now roofless, door less, windowless and with broken pillars. The surrounding is damaged as well.

But there is still hope. The structure is not completely ashed. The people of Tansen are not hopeless, we Nepalese people’s energy is not swallowed by the fire and bullets. We have hope that the Palpa Durbar comes into its original outlook within a very short time. It’s the dream of Palpali and whole Nepalese people. And we are sure that our dream comes true since we have the sympathy from national and international government, organizations, I/NGOs, supporters, people and all the well wishers.

A very good news to all of us is that a Tansen Reconstruction Team, led by Mr. Ram Bahadur Raut (National Chairperson of NAINN), has been formed very recently in Tansen, Palpa. It’s right time to contribute for the revival of the identity of whole human beings. Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) requests all National and International governments, NGOs, INGOs, Donor Agencies, people and well- wishers to make a contribution from your side so that Tansen Durbar can resurrect very soon. A small drop of water, if collected from many, can fill a large pot.

TANSEN RECONSTRUCTION TEAM FORMED

The Tansen Durbar and the other antiques which were destroyed by Maoist attack on the 31 January,2006, are hoped to be revived. A public meeting held on 10^th February formed a team for the reconstruction of Tansen. The attack had totally destroyed the Tansen Durbar which was a century’s living history in Nepal.

The Reconstruction Team will plan and manage to reconstruct the Durbar and its surrounding which covers nearly one hector. The Durbar Compound had the largest gate in Asia which will be brought back into its previous form during the reconstruction process. The Durbar Area is also famous for its archeological importance. The team will also hold Tansen Summit for the imagination of New Tansen.

The team has appealed to all the Naitonal and international government, donor agencies, NGOs, INGOs, people and all well-wishers for the support of their moral, physical, financial and any other kinds of help.

Mr. Dhan singh Ghimire, a soldier of Nepal Army, had been kidnapped by Maoist
since Dec.23,2005. He was released on 9^th February,2006. Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) and Nepal Federation of Journalist Palpa chapter took initiation to release him from the Maoist. Mr.Ram Bahadur Raut National Chairperson of NAINN, and Mr Bhagawan Bhandari, secretary of NFJ Palpa were in the team to release him. Experience Sharing Meeting

Career Group of Palpa held an Experience Sharing Meeting at Palpa on 29th October, 2005. The meeting was to share the experience about Appreciative Family Planning. Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network has begun a campaign of ‘Appreciative Family Planning.’ Palpa District is the first district to run the campaign in a district wide. Career Group is the first Organization to make the Appreciative Family Plan. In the meeting, the participants shared that they have been getting joy at hope while running family with such planning. The members of the career group members have made the family planning for a year. The meeting was chaired by Shatish Chapagain and Ram Raut clarified about the short term and long term vision of the planning.

Imagine Initiative Kaski Meeting
The meeting of Imagine Initiatives Kaski held at the office of Naulo Ghumti on 26th November, 2005. The decisions made as following:

1. On Marga 10, there will be an orientation program for the representatives of Gos/NGOs of Kaski district at the conference hall of DDC kaski. The workshop will be facilitated jointly by Naulo Ghumti and NEST.

2. Magha 21 and 22 is proposed for Regional Meeting in Pokhara. By that atleast two district level imagine initiatives in Syangja and Tanahun will be formed.

3. NEST will organize a TOT on Appreciative Inquiry in Pousha. The dateb will be decided latter.

4. September 8-10 the proposed date for the third National Summit of AI is accepted.

5. The procedure of second national summit and AI workshop held in Kathmandu was shared by Gopal Khadka, Suraj Rijal and Ram Prasad Gyawali.

Training of Trainer Training

October 20-26, 2005. Appropriate Technology for Asia (ATA) organized a seven day general Training of Trainer Training through Appreciative Inquiry for community leaders and staffs of Himali Parmaculture Group at Lek-Pharsa Village Development Committee (VDC) in Surkhet District, Mid-west Nepal. There were 23 participants including 11 women. Mr. Raj Bahadur Giri from Kathmandu Training Center and Buddhi Tamang from Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network facilitated the training. In the training, development, gender, Appreciative Inquiry concepts were taught for the participants. Adult learning, rapport building, facilitation and presentation skills, training design and lesson planning have taught. Participants practiced the micro-teaching based on their own natural farming system of knowledge such as grafting, herbal shampoo, leaf nursery, kitchen gardening, pit latrine, animal health etc. At the end of the training participants showed their commitment to facilitate at least two training in their own respected farmer groups.

Imagine Initiative Baitadi District
First week of October 2005. Imagine Initiative Baitadi District (IIBD) has been formed in Far-western Development Region of Nepal with comprising nine members under the chairmanship of Mr. Dhaniram Lohar. The Baitadi District is one of the remotest district of Nepal bordering with Uttar Pradesh, India. All the team members of IIBD are local Appreciative Inquiry facilitators, who are committed to carry out the imagine initiatives in the rural areas of Baitadi District.

IIBD is 24th Imagine District and altogether number of imagines initiatives have been reached 35 of Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN).

Appreciative Inquiry in Education
Appreciative Inquiry has taking diversified form in Nepal. It has been taught informally for school teachers and students in Dhangadi, Kailali District of Far-western Development Region of Nepal. Far-western Higher Secondary School (+2), Jesis Everest English High School and Guru Kul Academy Boarding School have been using Appreciative Inquiry for their students and teachers. Far-western Higher Secondary School (+2) has placed the high score pass rate as 75 percent in this region. AI has been used for positive mind setting, 4-D cycle planning of students and teachers, and discovering and strengthening their best practices, talent, exceptionality and other strengths. Mr. Mohan Bhatta (Principal of Far-western Higher Secondary School -+2) and Mr. Dinesh Bhandari (AI practitioner) have initiated this school initiatives and facilitating voluntarily.

After I have shared my own family plan, 38 friends responded me. Thanks for your appreciative response. It is my second phase plan through Appreciative Inquiry 4-D cycle and I am practicing in my family. What I have believed is - without practicing the Appreciative Inquiry by us we cannot tell to practice to others. If we do so, then it is only idealism. Our friend Mr. Sahadev Mahat always says, "dream without action is empty vision and action without dream is just passing the time." This saying is important and it also applies in our family.
Development professionals, practitioners, facilitators, community motivators, trainers, planners and are trained in planning for others. We do plan for our organizations, institutions, projects, NGOs, INGOs, agencies and communities. But we simply ignore to make the plan for our own family, where we live in. In this regard, without our own family plan and action how, we can develop our professionalism for our professional organizations and agencies. In this context, I think, family plan is very important, which helps to model family. Therefore, I urge you all to use Appreciative Inquiry at your home by developing family plan. Withdrawal of Program Postponed in Terhathum

It is good news for the NGOs of Terhathum district that the Maoist who had ordered to I/NGOs not to run any means of development work for one year effected from the 1st of Ashadh, 2062. After a lot effort, on the 7th of kartik,2062, they declared to withdraw of their restriction against I/NGOs. So we are now in the position to move ahead towards operate programme. So, I am planning to hold a district level orientation w/s of AI. I will prepare a TOR for resource person and project proposal for that programme. MTOT Training
CEDPA and Nagarik Awaz organized a 10 days Master Training of Trainers at Imdol, Lalitpur from September 18 – 27. There were 50 participants including 30 females representing various organizations throughout the country. The training was focused on peace building and conflict resolution. Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of Nepal Appreciative Inquiry Naitonal Network (NAINN) took a class of Appreciative Inquiry (AI). AI is an appropriate theory that can help for the peace building and conflict resolution. He gave an idea of AI and it’s theory, and discussed about positive mind setting. He further cleared about how AI helps in peace building process. The participants took part in discussion after the class. The lead facilitator of the training was Shobha Basnet and the other facilitators were Mr. Nayan Bdr. Khadka and Mr. Sudarshan K.C.

Appreciative Inquiry Orientation Program

On the auspicious occasion of Social Service Day, 22^nd September,2005, an AI Orientation Program was organized at Sungava Club in Ilam district in the presence of people from the different sectors of the social development. The orientation was organized to spread out AI in the district, to find out the various sectors to use AI and to reconstruct Imagine Initiative Ilam.

Mr. Khibaraj Dahal, the chairperson of Sungava Club welcomed the participants. The program was run in an informal way so that everyone would feel free to take part in the discussion. Positive Thinking, Introduction of Appreciative Inquiry, AI Networks of Nepal, AI in Ilam were some of the topics of discussion. Mr Ram Rimal, NAINN EC member and Kishor Rijal facilitated the program whereas Mr Kuber Niraula and Kibaraj Dahal co-facilitated it. At last, Imagine Initiative Ilam was reformed on the co-ordination of Mr. Khibaraj Dahal. There are 17 members in total including 6 female in the team. Kishor Rijal is the secretary of Imagine Initiative Ilam. All the participants have committed to create a more beautiful New Ilam.

Pratibaddha Milijuli Saving and Credit cooperative limited, run by female employee of UMN, Nepal organized a day AI Orientation on 2^nd October, 2005 in Kathmandu. There were 35 participants in the program. The participants were made clear about the introduction of AI, its theory, positive mind setting and 4 D cycle. The participants discovered the strength of the cooperative by having done one to one interview. AI interview questions were used to interview. Human Rights Education Radio Listeners’ Club (HRELIC), Lalitpur organized three day training on Basic Journalism from 4-6 October 2005. In the training, there was a session on ‘Appreciative Inquiry and Positive Thinking in Journalism’. Mr. Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN facilitated the session. ‘How AI can be used in journalism’ and ‘why positive thinking is necessary in journalist’ were the main questions in which the participants had discussion. The conclusion was drawn that the journalism can bring a positive change immediately in the mass and that’s why AI and Positive thinking is necessary. The participants determined to collect and publish positive news, success stories from the society in the monthly magazine – Lalit Sandesh, being published by HERELIC, Lalitpur.

SECOND NATIONAL SUMMIT OF IMAGINE INITIATIVES OF NEPAL

Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) has been able to achieve one more success by organizing the Second National Summit of Imagine Initiatives of Nepal. The summit was held at Kharipati, Bhaktapur, Nepal on 6-8 September, 2005. The founding Father of Appreciative Inquiry (AI), Prof. David L. Cooperrider’s presence made the summit more important and valuable. More than 70 participants from all Five AI Regional Networks representing from 31 Imagine Initiatives made the summit even more lively. The foreign guests from the USA encouraged the participants further more. The slogan, “Appreciative Inquiry Campaign for positive Societal Transformation through Imagine Initiative movement”, of NAINN is boosted up.

The program, was formally inaugurated in a participatory way that the guests as well as the participants lit candles. The candle lit by a local porter, Thami Bhomjan, led all the candles. NAINN believes, as AI does, that societal transformation is possible only when all the elements of the society move together. Mr. Bhomjan’s candle was representing the light of all the people who are unheard and are alienated from the social activities.

Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur district delivered speech and appreciated NAINN’s movement of spreading AI and positive mind setting campaign in the country like Nepal where people are thirsty for peace. He also expressed his hope of restoring peace in Nepal through AI movement. The other guests and the participants expressed their expectations, hope and feeling in the formal inauguration program of the Summit.

The remaining sessions and days were utilized by sharing success stories and experiences of using AI in the societal development. Dr. Chandi Chapagain, Mr. Buddhi Tamang, Mr. Daniel Cooperrider and Mr. Amit Kovoor shared about AI and its usage in Nepal and around the world. The participants shared the finding of the use of AI in their society, organization, family and in many other ways. The success stories, clarification about AI added energy to the participants to do even better and more.

AI is used for the societal transformation and it is initiated by NAINN for the first time in Nepal. Five regional networks and the imagine initiatives have been applying AI in all sectors of societal development. Different people have different experiences from their fields. All these were shared in the summit. The summit was fully interactive and everyone was busy in grasping new ideas from other participants and was very much active to share his/her own.

There were many stories told about the positive effect of AI. Some of the stories about how one got rid of physical difficulties like sever headache, heart problem and many others when they started working with AI. AI has been able to resolute conflict in the society.

To sum up, AI in Nepalese society is doing better and going well. It has shown the rays of hope that AI can be the best tool for the positive transformation.

The ideas, experiences, success stories shared in the summit, have proved that people in the society have found AI a very easy and effective methodology to work with. AI has made people to work freely in the environment of encouragement. Since Nepalese society and its culture is already full of positive aspects, people feel they are doing everything from within themselves while working with AI. They never feel imposed.

AI has been used in Nepal since 1964. In the early age, it was used for the Organizational Development. But after the establishment of NAINN, it is felt that AI must not be narrowed within tools for OD and Planning. It is a big Key that can open the Big doors of many positive transformations. Having this conclusion, NAINN has formulated the philosophy, supporting theories and the modality for the societal transformation of AI. We say AI is theory, philosophy, principle, approach, methodology, method and tools as well. NAINN is explaining AI as a holistic approach.

While translating the terminology of AI from English to Nepali, there is found varieties. The summit also made a common consensus of using the same Nepali terminology all over Nepal.

The third achievement of the Summit is that it made six year 4 D plan of NAINN with the action plan for a year. The plan consists of expanding formation of imagine initiatives throughout Nepal, launch a peace building project, expanding imagine family, publications, AI schooling, etc.

Finally yet importantly, continuing the tradition of declaration, the summit has also issued Bhaktapur Declaration. The declaration has clarified and added the issues, guidelines and many other things on the declaration of the first summit.

On the final day of the summit, Prof. Dr. David L. Cooperrider spoke about AI. The participants were very much grateful to David for his presence and speech

The formal closing ceremony was much more interesting, meaningful, and effective for many people working with AI. They all expressed their findings while working with AI. Karna Shakya was the another influencing personality who shared how he could get success only due to positive thinking and vision. Human Rights Activist, Mr. Subodhraj Pyakurel was the chief guest and Prof. David as the special guest of the closing ceremony.

The news of the summit was covered by local and national media. National Chairperson of NAINN, Mr Ram Bahadur Raut chaired and Mr. Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN ran the formal programs. The other sessions were chaired and run by the members of NAINN. They were Mr. Ram Gyawali, Mr. Mohan Bhatta, Mr. Ram Rimal, Mr. Kapil Dev Singhak, Mr. Gopal Ghimire, Mr. Pankaj Nath, Ms. Laxmi Rai.

The summit, thus, turned into a great achievement. All the imagine initiatives, regional networks and national network have been able to strengthen themselves. The summit also has given new guidelines to work with AI in the society. It also opened a ground to keep relationship with the AI practitioners of the other countries. The foreign guests like Mac Odell, Linda fairburn, Daniel, Amit have sprinkled the hope, encouragement, and strength. The summit is, therefore, the second milestone in the history of NAINN.

First Regional Summit of Imagine Initiatives of Eastern Nepal

Eastern Regional Appreciative Inquiry Network (ERAIN) has organized first Regional Summit of Imagine Initiatives of Eastern Nepal (FRSIIEN) in Biratnagar on 26-27 September 2005. In this summit, 130 District Imagine Initiative representatives were present including Appreciative Inquiry practitioners, facilitators, supporters, well-wishers from 12-Districts. PLAN International -Nepal and other donors and media people also represented in the summit. The summit was held in a participatory way. Mr. Pradeep Puri, the co-coordinator of the Summit, Ram Rimal, NAINN member have presented the papers on which the participants actively participated in the discussion. The summit also finalized the 4D plan of ERAIN.

Mr. Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN also presented paper on NAINN, Regional Networks and Imagine Initiatives; and also answered the queries raised by the participants. The participants were made clear about the organizational structure of NAINN and the role, responsibility of Regional Networks.

At the end, the summit announced the Biratnagar Declaration with 10 points. Local and national media have reported about the summit. In the declaration, the summit urged to government and Maoist for the seize fire.
Mr. Pankaj Nagh Singh, Mr. Kapil Dev Singhak , the NAINN members and other People and organizations like NGO federation, Plan Nepal have helped a lot to make the Summit success.

One-Day Appreciative Inquiry Orientation in Doti District

One day AI orientation training was held by Imagine Imitative Doti District at district headquarter Silgudi on 28 September 2005. It was organized for social mobilizers of four NGOs and total participants were 30. Mr. Bishal Kasuju facilitated the training voluntarily and also shared the AI for Peace and Development training of Imagine Nepal that was organized in Kathmandu and facilitated by David Cooperrider himself on 9-11 September 2005. They have also announced to do the next AI orientation training for 50 people immediate after Tihar. Mr. Bishal Kasuju showed his commitment to facilitate the next AI orientation as a volunteer. NAINN appreciates his genuine contribution as a team member. Imagine Imitative Doti District has decided to organize the First Regional Summit of Imagine Initiatives Far-west Nepal (FRSIIFN).

One-Day Appreciative Inquiry Orientation for Tamang Media Group

Imagine Initiative Lalitpur District General Assembly was held at Patan under chair of Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa on 8 October 2005. In this meeting, Mr. Gopal Sanjel (Secretary) reported the annual progress and income and expenditure. The Assembly made the following decisions:

1. BACKGROUND CONCEPT

Imagine Initiatives and Appreciative Inquiry Networks are movements for positive societal transformation through creating common vision and action. In fact, it is the movement of hope, joy, possibility, connection, creativity, generosity, resourcefulness, life and learning. Every individual, community, society and organization has both positive and negative aspects. We believe that the positive aspects are the life giving and nurturing forces, which make it possible to live, grow, and attain harmony. Conversely, the negative aspect leads the individual and society towards dissatisfaction, unfulfillment, scarcity, conflict and chaos. Development and business performances undertaken by using the first approach have outstripped the ones employed by the second approach. It means, if we follow the first approach that is "More gain - Less or zero Pain" and if we follow the second approach that is "More pain - Less or zero Gain". Societal transformation is faster with the application of an Appreciative Inquiry (AI) approach than with other approaches. What is the magic of this approach? How does it happen? How is it used? These are the questions the Summit intends to seek the answers for.

AI starts and grows with positive logic. It starts with positive thinking and moves through positive inquiry, positive response, positive action and positive change. This interdependent logical sequence of thought, inquiry, response, action and change creates synergy to increase the life giving and nurturing forces of a living system. In this context, AI emphasizes the importance of the cultural context of development by incorporating local wisdom, cultural values, norms, and practices of contemporary development discourse.

Keeping this in mind, AI practitioners formed the Nepal AI National Network (NAINN) in January 2004. NAINN is a vibrant network of five regional AI Networks (east, central, west, mid-west and far west) and local imagine initiatives at the district level. NAINN is facilitating the five regional AI networks as well as district level local imagine initiatives. Five regional networks are facilitating and helping to coordinate district imagine initiatives in the grassroots. The motives of these local imagine initiatives and AI networks are to yield positive change in Initiative Movement to build momentum. The SNSIIN will be held through participatory and appreciative methods so that we can connect personal passion with direct responsibility in order to maximize everyone's learning and contribution.

2. OBJECTIVE OF SUMMIT

The major objectives of SNSIIN are to sensitize and reconnect the peace-building efforts made by representatives in various districts thus far and to develop a nurturing plan to strengthen the already initiated positive societal transformation process. Specific objectives of the SNSIIN are:

DISCOVERY - discover the past successes, present best practices and life-giving and nurturing forces of NAINN and Nepal. Also, discover the best opportunities to grow NAINN and to create an even better Nepal. It is like bird's EYE view, gliding in the sky and peering down to the ground living reality.

DREAM – imagine results/achievements of AI Network for nurturing the new Nepal. It is like looking towards the sky from the ground and seeing the present life giving and nurturing forces and best practices of organization and community are growing bigger and better within the specific time frame.

DESIGN – co-construct the system plan to materialize the shared DREAM of the Districts, Development regions and National as big as imagined. It is the crafting of ideas, ways, techniques, and strategies by peering down the ground living reality.

DELIVERY – develop a key program and commitment for meaningful action. It is acting and doing with body, speech and mind by multiplying present life-giving and nurturing forces for better being of Nepal.

3. METHODOLOGY OF SNSIIN

The three-day program will consist of Discovery, Dream, Design, and Delivery. Appreciative Inquiry will be the basic concept for this SNSIIN. The group work, floor discussion, presentation, and brainstorming will also be a part of the learning tool. Participants will be encouraged to meditate for reflection and self-realization. The format allows concepts and issues to be discussed within a practical and day-to-day working context. It also allows participants to share practical experiences from different Imagine Initiatives, AI networks and other respective network organizations.

4. PROGRAM

The three-day SNSIIN is designed to multiply the present quantitative and qualitative strengths and capabilities of the district Imagine Initiatives and the regional and national AI networks of Nepal. Similarly, other participatory development professionals of network organizations will be invited to participate in the SNSIIN. Staff members whose contribution is deemed to be vital for the improvement of the organization can participate in the program irrespective of their rank, designation, or status in the organization.

Accumulate the idea about how AI is practiced around the world. And get further more knowledge on AI. Recall the Discovery and practice Dream - village, districts and five development regions and national imagine initiatives and human resources. Recall the Dream (imagine initiatives) and Design a systemic plan to achieve the dreamed goals. Move into Delivery /Destiny – developing action plans to materialize the designed system plan.

Formation of Imagine Youth, Lalitpur

April 23, 2005. Imagine Lalitpur (IL) organized a meeting of the Youths of Lalitpur. The purpose of the meeting was to form an Imagine Youth team to accelerate the movement of positive societal transformation forwarded by NAINN and supported by Imagine Initiatives. IL had organized a gathering of the youths in which Buddhi Tamang, Parashu Ram Timalsina and Gopal Ghimire had given an orientation on AI to them.

The meeting formed "IMAGINE YOUTH, LALITPUR (IYL)" of 11 members. The coordinator of the IYL is Mr. Amrit Timalsina and the vice Coordinator is Ms. Pramila Badikar. IL will cooperate IYL to move its program all over Lalitpur in the days to come.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMNET TRAINING FOR SATHI NETWORK.

May 31-June 4, 2005. Society for Empowerment, STEP Nepal, an NGO working for controlling HIV/AIDS, organized Leadership Development Training for Sathi Network at Jawalakhel. Various skills, methods and techniques were given to the participants to develop the leadership skill. Parashu Ram Timalsina, general Secretary of NAINN, ran one of the sessions. He discussed about Appreciative Inquiry, its theoretical and practical part. There were 32 participants including 21 female.

MAY 8-10, 2005. NGO Federation Sankhuwashava organized a three day AI Training for the district level GOs and NGOs leaders of Sankhuwashava. Number of participants were 37 including 8 female. Buddhi Tamang, advisor of NAINN facilitated the program.

MAY 11-15, 2005. NGO Federation Sankhuwashava organized a five-day AI Training for the staff members of GOs and NGOs who are actually working in the grass root level. Number of participants were 30 including 8 female. Buddhi Tamang, advisor of NAINN facilitated the program.

FORMATION OF IMAGINE INITIATIVES
MAY 15, 2005. Social Development Activists, social workers and NGO leaders have formed 'IMAGINE INITIATIVE, SHANKHUWASHAVA (IIS). The initiative was formed in the presence of Buddhi Tamang, advisor of NAINN and Harikrishna Khatiwada, Chief District Officer, Shankhuwashava. Prem Kumar Karki is the coordinator and Kalpana Dhital is member secretary of the committee of 15 members.

IIS has also formed an advisory team in which the members are Mr Harikrishna Khatiwada, Chief District Officer, Shankhuwashava, Mr. Meghnath Kafle, Local Development Officer, Mr. Khadga Rai and Chewanchandra Basnet from NGO federation, Shankhuwashava and the other four GOs and NGO district officer of Shankhuwashava.

FACILITATION SKILL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING
JUNE 2-7, 2005. Rural Institution for Community Development (RICOD), an NGO working to control HIV/AIDS, organized a six-day's " Facilitation Skill Development Training" to its staff members and volunteers. Various facilitation skills such as presentation skill, communication skill, counseling skill were given to the participants. Along with this, A half day session was about Appreciative Inquiry. Mr Parashuram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN facilitated the session. He dealt with the AI theory, principles, philosophy and 4 D cycle. In the remaining days, Mr. Ram Hari Ghimire, The coordinator of RICOD, Ms. Jamuna Shrestha, Mr. Yadav Humagain and Mr Akkal Sing Thapa facilitated the programe. There were total 28 participants including 18 female.

May 3, 2005. Community Development Workshop. Imagine Initiative, Lalitpur organized a day's "First Lalitpur Community Development Workshop (FLCDW) at Jawalakhel. Chief District Officer inaugurated the workshop. The Program was run in the presence of Local Development Officer, Lalitpur. General Secretary of NAINN ran an introductory class of Appreciative Inquiry in the workshop. He explained the theory, philosophy and 4 D cycle of AI. Papers on Agro-Forestry, Education, Health and Women were presented and discussed there. Mr Bimal Kumar Baniya., Mr. Harsanarayan Dhaumadel, Mr Rituraj Gaudtaula and Ms. Kamala Parajuli presented the paper respectively. District level GOs, NGOs, INGOs and other organization involved in economic sectors participated in the programme. The total presentation was 63 including half of female. The participants were encouraged to have known about AI and about how social development can be run through AI. All the present organizations including Lalitpur District Development Committee were agreed to implement AI in their planning, Social development activities and also agreed to organize such programs in the days to come.

December 30, 2004 - January 1, 2005. Nawalparasi District Development Committee (DDC) and Imagine Nawalparasi organized jointly Three Day Appreciative Inquiry training for its staff members in Nawalparasi District Headquarter Parasai. There were 29-participants in the training. Introduction, history, theoretical background of AI and techniques of positive mind setting were discussed. Similarly, AI working framework 4-D wheel was exercised in their own day-to-day working context. Ram Raut and Gopal Ghimire facilitated the training. The training participants developed their future Plan for DDC.

January 6, 2005. Nucleus for Empowerment through Skill Transfer (NEST), West Nepal organized a one day Appreciative Inquiry Orientation for its partners NGOs, Journalists, Educationists and government staff. In this orientation, AI concept was briefed. The information about the Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) and its goal and objectives were shared. Himalayan Broadcasting Corporation Workshop

December 5, 2004. Himalayan Broadcasting Corporation (HBC) Radio organized a day workshop for its Program Producers, Program hosts and administrators. The workshop was focused on how HBC Radio can produce the best programs for the listeners and how it can establish peace in Nepal as well. Buddhi Tamang, National Advisor of NAINN and Parashu Ram Timalsina, General Secretary of NAINN were invited to give a talk in the workshop. Buddhi Tamang gave a clear view about how the radios can transmit the news for the positive societal transformation and peacekeeping movement. He told that information is not only the power but also the primal creating forces as AI concept. The media must be very serious to transmit the information. The information should be encouraging not the dreadful, inspiring not the depressing, success stories of people and nation not the thorny and depressing news and information. The media is the unit that should initiate itself to bring a positive change in the society. The renowned figures on different fields like Nepali Literature, Music and journalism were presented in the workshop.

AI Workshop in Capital College & Research Center

December 5, 2004. Capital College and Research Center of Kathmandu, organized a day AI Workshop to its students of Class XI. There were about 150 students in the program. The students were given ideas about how they can develop and get further success through AI perspective. The students got new way of studying life i.e. from positive side. They knew that they are living because of their life giving forces and nurturing forces not because of the life killing forces. By the end of the workshop, the students told that they got a new inspiration and encouragement form the workshop. APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY TRAINING

December 9 - 13, 2004. Bhutanese Refugee Women’s Forum (BRWF), organized a five days Planning Workshop through Appreciative Inquiry in collaboration with Lutheran World Federation for Bhutanese Refugee Camp Leaders. There were 31 participants including males. In the workshop, an Impact review of previous AI training was done. They have developed a detailed plan by using 4Ds and got additional concept of AI . APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY TRAINING

December 17 - 21, 2004. Caritas Nepal (CA), working with Bhutanese Refuges in East Nepal, in the field of school education, organized a five days Appreciative Inquiry Training. The training was held in collaboration with UNHCR. There were 26 participants from the schools of Refuge Camp. The Headmasters, Asst. Headmasters and their staff members participated in the training. The training was focused on School Education System. Participants were clear on AI concept and its working framework. APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY TRAINING

December 24-26,2004. Nari Bikas Sangh (Women Development Association – WDA), situated in Birtnagar and working in the Eastern Development Region of Nepal, organized a three days Appreciative Inquiry Training, in its own training hall, for its executive team members. There were 25 participants including three males. The training was focused on Women Development. In the training, participants were clear on AI concept and did massive exercise on AI 4Ds wheel. At the end, the participants could inquire the life giving and nurturing forces of WDA. Furthermore, they had a dream of WDA and made a delivery plan for six months. The participants were very happy and satisfied to have known about AI and its working model. Buddhi Tamang, National Advisor of NAINN facilitated the training and Ushmee Shrestha co-facilitated it. The members of WDA have also decided that they will have a four days AI training after three months.

Imagine Initiative Morang

December 27,2004. NGO Federation, Eastern Resource Center, Biratnagar organized Second Appreciative Inquiry orientation in Biratnagar. There were 30 Participants (male and female) from different NGOs, government and private sector. In the orientation program, the participants were told the importance of the formation of Imagine Initiatives. They were also told about the AI movement in Nepal. December 4, 2004. Imagine Initiative Lalitpur organized one day AI Orientation Program for the youths of Lalitpur District. The aim of the program was to form an Imagine Youth Network, Lalitpur. October 24, 2004. Tamang Tsingtoji Paribar Sangh organized one day Appreciative Inquiry Training for its members. Buddhi Tamang facilitated the AI training voluntarily. The participants expressed their views with their resources, knowledge, and skills, hard working habit, unity, peace, hope, dignity, motivation, etc. They showed their commitment to multiply and continue these life-giving forces in future for their peace and development. In this endeavor, the International AI Leaders and communities do not have any interest other than prosperous Nepal. They just want to see the wellbeing of Nepal with peace and its beauty. Imagine Nepal Meeting
October 15, 2004. In this Imagine Nepal has organized a meeting. In this meeting, Buddhi Tamang chaired the the meeting and three agendas were discussed. In the meeting, there were Nepal AI Summit, Membership distribution, Future Action etc. Decision were as follows:
* During the sharing, the Imagine Nepal Executive Members were so excited to organized Nepal Appreciative Inquiry Summit in Nepal. In this agenda, all the executive members unanimously decided that they wanted to organize Asia Regional Appreciative Inquiry Summit (Conference) for peace and development rather than Nepal AI Summit. The rational was, why should we limited in Nepal only.
* Membership form of Imagine Nepal has changed little ominously and decided to distribute for all the individuals.
* Future actions of Imagine Nepal are also decided unanimously to have meeting on every Sunday of Nepali Month from four to five pm (duration).

Meeting with Professor Krishna Bdr. Bhattachan
October 15, 2004. Buddhi Tamang had a meeting with the Professor of Tribhuvan University at his home, Sanepa, Kathmandu, Nepal. They discussed about the ways and methods to build the confidence of Ethnic Communities of Nepal through Appreciative Inquiry (AI). The meeting was focused on discovering life forces rather than discovering problems of Ethnic Groups of Nepal. They both agreed that the AI process builds the self-confidence of Nepalese Ethnic groups to grow their life forces more.

AI Orientation Training for Nepal Tamang Media Group
October 14, 2004. Buddhi Tamang facilitated Appreciative Inquiry Orientation Training (AIOT) for Nepal Tamang Media Group. There were 10 - participants including a woman. In the AIOT, he made them clear about what Appreciative Inquiry is and its usefulness in Tamang society. He also mentioned about the present AI Movement status in the World and in Nepal. All the participants realized that it is useful for transformation and management for current conflict of Nepal. In this connection, media can play an effective role in this issue. All the participants realized to organize one full day training to know about this. The participants asked Mr. Tamang to help them regularly to make them understand about the AI. They also showed their commitment to have full training of AI. They themselves have committed to expand AI in the public through media for positive mind setting for current conflict transformation. In this endeavor, Mr. Tamang showed his commitment to help media people.

AI Interview
October 08, 2004. Buddhi Tamang was interviewed about the Appreciative Inquiry and current conflict issue of Nepal to publish in the book entitled "Nepal Bhusan - A collection of interviews" that is going to be published in Prabartaman Publication in Nepali. In interview, he told about the Appreciative Inquiry and its scope in Nepalese context. He has mentioned that AI frame has come from USA but this concept is already embedded in Nepali culture. Therefore, its not new for Nepal but it is modified form of Nepal AI. It is very useful for current conflict transformation of Nepal in peaceful way and positively. It means, it is very important for peace and development of Nepal.

NAINN's Activities in November 2004

Drinking Water Success Stories
November 2004. Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Support Program (RWSSSP) of FINIDA reviewed its previous programs from the perspective of Appreciative Inquiry. In this review, Rain Water Collection Technology (RWCT) was found successful in the villages of Mountain Foothills of Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Parbat and Tanahun Districts of Nepal. RWCT is found useful where sources are not available above the human settlements. Functioning, living, community managed RWCT projects were considered successul. Thousand of thousand people are being benefited from this project specifically women and children. Madan Pokhara Community FM Radio Palpa reported success stories of the RWCT project in 15 episodes. Similarly, Pipeline Drinking Water System (PDWS) of Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Parbat and Tanahun Districts of Nepal also found much successful. The people of eight districts were benefited from this project. Sreenagar FM Radio Tansen Palpa reported the success stories of PDWS project in 15 episodes.

Annual Planning of Nepal Drinking Water & Sanitation Users' Committee Federation
November 21-25, 2004. Nepal Drinking Water & Sanitation Users' Committee Federation (NDWSUCF) organized five days Appreciative Inquiry Training. During the AI training, NDWSUCF's Annual Plan has been prepared based on Four D cycle (Discovery, Dream, Design and Delivery). There were 21 members of NDWSUCF as participants. Ram Bdr. Raut, National Coordinator, Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network facilitated the training.

Registration of Imagine Initiative Palpa
November 22, 2004. Second Meeting of Imagine Initiative Palpa was held in Tansen, Palpa. All the Executive Committee Members attended the meeting. The meeting has decided to register the Imagine Initiative Palpa before January 20, 2005 in District Administration Office, Palpa District in Tansen, Nepal. After the registration, it will get legal entity.

Nepal Drinking Water & Sanitation Users' Committee Federation
November 20, 2004. First Conference of Drinking Water & Sanitation Users' Committees of Nepal (FCDWSUC) was held in Tansen. Representatives of 150 Drinking Water & Sanitation Users' Committees of Nepal attended the conference. The conference formed Nepal Drinking Water & Sanitation Users' Committee Federation (NDWSUCF). It is happened first time in Nepal. The conference has decided to adopt the Appreciative Inquiry as theoretical guidance and grounding principles of NDWSUCF. Ram Bdr. Raut, National Coordinator, Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network gave Appreciative Inquiry orientation and facilitated the conference.

AI Supporters Kapilvastu
November 11, 2004. Appreciative Inquiry Supporters of Kapilvastu District had a meeting in Taulihawa. Ram Bdr. Raut, National Coordinator, Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network attended the meeting. The meeting has decided to have Appreciative Inquiry orientation training as a base to form Imagine Initiative Kapilvastu District. Mr. Ram Bdr. Raut gave a word to facilitate the AI orientation and help to form Imagine Initiative Kapilvastu District near soon. For your kind information, Kapilvastu is the home of Lord Buddha. And adjoining Rupandehi District is his birthplace that is known as Holly Lumbini. So our Appreciative Inquiry is flourishing in this holly land, Lord Buddha's home and birthplace. Appreciative Inquiry Leadership & Networking Training
November 8-10, 2004. Tourism Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP) organized Three days Appreciative Inquiry Training for appreciative leadership and networking in Taulihawa, Kapilvastu District. In this training, Sustainable Tourism Development Committee members and Social Mobilizers of project were participants. All together there were 13 participants from six Districts of Nepal. Ram Bdr. Raut, National Coordinator, Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) facilitated the training.

Appreciative Inquiry Training of Trainers (AI-TOT)
November 2-8, 2004. Human Rights Radio Listening Club (HRELIC) Nepal Central Committee organized Seven Day Human Right Training of Trainers (HR-TOT). In the training, 26 representatives from seventeen Districts of Nepal were participants. Appreciative Inquiry was introduced in the first and the second day and the remaining days was about human rights and training facilitation skills and techniques. But human right TOT was facilitated through Appreciative Inquiry perspectives and whole process was appreciative and participatory. Human Rights Radio Listening Club (HRELIC) Nepal Central Committee has established Appreciative Inquiry (AI) Unit in Central Level for promoting the AI it in all branches HRELIC. The team members have selected Ms Laxmi Niraula as an Incharge of the AI Unit. This HRELIC has 800 members in Nepal. Sreenagar FM Radio Palpa reported it in November 12, 2004. Ram Bdr. Raut, National Coordinator, Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) facilitated this AI-TOT.

Imagine Initiative Nawalparasi District
November 6, 2004. Appreciative Inquiry (AI) Orientation Training was organized in Nawalparasi District Headquarter Parasi. Mr. Gopal Ghimire coordinated the gathering and 40 participants were there from different parts of District. Ram Bdr. Raut, the National Coordinator, and Gopal Ghimire, the member of Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) facilitated the orientation training. After the orientation training, a gathering was organized and it formed Imagine Initiative Nawalparasi District by comprising 11-Members. Mr. Suman Gopal Acharya has selected unanimously as an Imagine Initiative Nawalparasi as a coordinator.

Talk to Time FM Radio
November 05, 2004. Buddhi Tamang, Advisor of Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network spoke in Times FM Radio in Jawalakhel, Kathmandu. He gave an analytical talk about the Successes achieved in past 14-years of Tamang People of Nepal from the Appreciative Inquiry perspective. The achieved successes were Education, Publication in Tamang language, and Awareness in Tamang cultural identity and diversification of livelihood strategy. His message to Tamang community is to protect and multiply this achievement. In brief, expansion of life giving forces is reduction of life killing force.

November 1, 2004. Appreciative Inquiry Practitioners have formed Imagine Initiative Palpa (IIP). The Imagine Initiative Palpa envisioned for promoting of life giving forces of Palpa and Palpali people through its multiplication. Buddhi Tamang (Advisor Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network) and Ram Bdr. Raut (National Coordinator of Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network) facilitated the gathering. AI orientation. Mr. Kausal Raj Ghimire and Mr. Prem Pageni are selected unanimously as Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of Executive Committee. Mr. Tikaram Gyawali, Ms. Susila Shrestha, Mr. Shreekrishna Nepal, Mr. Gunakar Aryal, Mr. Sudarsan Koirala and Mr. Mahendra Panday are selected unanimously as Members of Executive Committee of Imagine Initiative Palpa. At the same time, Advisory Committee also formed by comprising five members. The Advisory Committee Members are Chief District Officer and Assistant Chief District Officer of District Administrative Office Palpa, Local Development Officer of District Development Committee, Dr. Tirtha Regmi and Team Leader of Local Initiative Support Program (a program of helvetas - Swiss development NGO). There are 50 general members including 10 women. The executive committee has convened to register in District Administration Office for it's legal identity. Five Day Appreciative Inquiry Training
October 27 to November 2, 2004. Local Initiatives Support Program (LISP), Helvetas Nepal organized Five Day Appreciative Inquiry Training for its partners in Tansen, Palpa, West Nepal. Buddhi Tamang and Ram Bdr. Raut facilitated the training. Jitendra Prasad Jaiswal, team leader of LISP chaired the opening session and the Chief District Officer of Palpa District was chief guest. Participants were presented from government institutions, NGOs and Media. Total Participants were most responsible persons in their respective organization and total participants were 32 including five female. During the training, more than 40 sessions were covered and conveyed the introduction, history, theory, and working framework (Four Ds - Discovery, Dream, Design and Delivery) of Appreciative Inquiry. Half-day fieldwork was done for Four Ds. In the training, many practical experiences were shared by facilitators and participants. In the closing session, participants expressed their views feeling, experience and usefulness of the training. Madan Pokhara, Shreenagar and Mukti Nath FM Radios, local TV, Jana Chetana (local paper) and National Paper Annapurna Post reported the training.

NAINN ACTIVITIES - JANUARY, 2005

AI Training in Nawalparasi District
December 30, 2004 - January 1, 2005. Nawalparasi District Development Committee (DDC) and Imagine Nawalparasi organized jointly Three Day Appreciative Inquiry training for its staff members in Nawalparasi District Headquarter Parasai. There were 29-participants in the training. Introduction, history, theoretical background of AI and techniques of positive mind setting were discussed. Similarly, AI working framework 4-D wheel was exercised in their own day-to-day working context. Ram Raut and Gopal Ghimire facilitated the training. The training participants developed their future Plan for DDC.

APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY TRAINING
January 3-5, 2005. Nucleus for Empowerment through Skill Transfer (NEST), West Nepal organized a Three day Training for its staff and members of other NGOs in Pokhara. There were 25 participants including three female. The training made the participants conceptual clarity of AI and practised its 4-D wheel according to their working context. Director of NEST made the opening of the training. Training certificates was distributed in such a participatory way that each one distributes one system. The organizer and participants have realized that they will have three day AI training for further more clarity and exercise on 4-D cycle. The training was reported in local FM Radios and newspapers.

APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY ORIENTATION
January 6, 2005. Nucleus for Empowerment through Skill Transfer (NEST), West Nepal organized a one day Appreciative Inquiry Orientation for its partners NGOs, Journalists, Educationists and government staff. In this orientation, AI concept was briefed. The were shared the information about the Nepal Appreciative Inquiry National Network (NAINN) and its goal and objectives. This HBC FM Mitra interactive program is between guest speakers and radio audience. In this program, Buddhi Tamang mentioned about the book in brief. Mr. Tamang and Timalsina explained, how to become appreciative towards her/his life, group, community and society as a whole to transform the present conflict into peace and development. Both the guest speaker clarified the questions of concerns of radio audiences. The speakers mentioned that Appreciative Inquiry focuses as 1) discover the life giving and nurturing forces, 2) protection them, 3) multiply them for expansion. In other work, multiplication of life giving and nurturing force is expansion of peace, unity, common consensus, integrity, harmony, wisdom, compassion, equanimity and lovingkindness. Expansion of these strengths, potentials, and hope are reduction of problem or negative aspects of life or transformation of conflict into peace and development. After the program, many audiences gave feedback to do this kind of program very often. Rural Institute for Community Devolvement (RICOD) organized three day Conflict Transformation and Management through Appreciative Inquiry Training from 7 to 9 November 2004 in Sipadole, Bhaktapur, Nepal. The training participants were staff members of RICOD, Community Leaders and staff of Environmental Conservation for Community Awareness (ECCA). RICOD is working in South Lalitpur District of Nepal in the area of Community Health. Specifically, it is focusing in Child Nutrition and Youth Development. The purpose of organizing this training was to transform the negative conflict into positive working environment that arises in the community and within organization. At the same time learn knowledge and skill to deal the present political conflict situation for smooth running of the project. In the training, the participants discussed about the nature and types of conflict. They also discussed about the strengths and successes of RICOD for its protection and multiplication for expansion to transform the conflict into peace and development. For this, all the participants realized that positive mind setting through Appreciative Inquiry is very essential. Imagine Nepal Meeting

In this Imagine Nepal has organized a meeting. In this meeting, Buddhi Tamang chaired the the meeting and three agendas were discussed. In the meeting, there were Nepal AI Summit, Membership distribution, Future Ation etc. Dicision were as follows:

October 9, 2004 Buddhi Tamang gave talk program to Tamang Tshingtoji Paribar (Tamang Awareness Family) about Appreciative Inquiry in Kathmandu. Participants were 13 male and one female. He discussed about the Culture and Development of Tamang community. The focus of discussion was perceived Tamang Society and Culture. All the participants emphasized to perceive the Tamang Society and Culture appreciatively, it was what is the life forces of Tamang community rather than what is broken and problem. At the end of the discussion, all the participants expressed their positive views and asked to continue this kind of discussion in future.

Buddhi Tamang gave interview about the Appreciative Inquiry and current conflict issue of Nepal to the book, which is entitle as "Nepal Bhusan - A collection of interviews" that is going to be published in Prabartaman Publication in Nepali. In interview, he told about the Appreciative Inquiry and its scope in Nepalese context. He has mentioned that AI frame has come from USA but this concept is already embedded in Nepali culture. Therefore, its not new for Nepal but it is modified form of Nepal AI. It is very useful for current conflict transformation of Nepal in peaceful way and positively.
